There is some speculation and debate as to when and where the game of Roulette (meaning “small wheel” in French) originated. One theory states that it was invented in China and the Dominican monks of the day brought the game back to Europe during the trading days of the early 1700’s. The second theory says that the game was invented by the French mathematician Blaise Pascal at about the same time in history.
There are two versions of Roulette being played in the world today. The single zero version is also referred to as European Roulette. Although the game didn’t come to the US until over a century later in the early 1800’s, the common American version features the single zero and a double zero as well. The double zero was added in the US in order to create more of an advantage for the house.
Roulette came to the internet in the mid 1990’s when the World Wide Web was just taking off. As online casinos grew in popularity, so did the popularity of the more common casino games that were being offered. Games such as Baccarat, Blackjack, Poker, and Roulette developed quite an internet following. Additionally, the game of Roulette is just as popular amongst the online audience as it is in a land-based casino.
As with any of the other casino games, if you are just starting out at playing Roulette, take your time to learn the game, how to bet, and then play for free for a while until you get the hang of it. This will help you to avoid losing a lot of money when you start betting for real.
