Most online bingo sites are unashamedly marketed at women. This is because they are in the majority with respect to playing bingo.
Recognizing that the number of men playing online bingo is increasing, the first online bingo site targeted at men was launched in December 2008. The appropriately named ‘Bloke Bingo’ site admits to being solely for men (although women can play as well).
The website offers 75, 80 and 90 ball games. They will match the first deposit up to a limit of £250, and offers prizes which appeal to men, such as DVDs, Blu-Ray and sports equipment. On registration a new member has an automatic chance of winning a computer gaming console.
On the last Sunday of each month there is an opportunity to win a £10,000 cash prize. You don’t even have to be online to enter this game, since you can purchase tickets in advance and they will be kept on your account until the game starts.
The site has a designated room where you can take part in fun chat games, quizzes, team bingo and tournament bingo together with monthly prizes.
Many critics have complained that the launch of Bloke Bingo encourages online sites to cater to either men or women. They feel that the next step should be to launch unisex bingo sites and not increase the divide. Also, while the number of men playing online bingo is increasing they still make up a relatively small number so this site may find it difficult to increase membership.
